(Special Article)

Happy Halloween, everybody! Today's the day you give candy to children and scare the ever-loving shit out of 'em. But let's not let the kids hog all the fun, eh? Us older people can get scared too; in fact, we sometimes enjoy it (especially teens like me).

So I've got this disturbing urban legend I found a while back that I've been meaning to share, and now might be the right time. It's up to you whether or not you think it's true.
WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Portal 2

For those of you who have played Portal 2, you'll know that GLaDOS and the Aperture Science Labs were given a backstory. Cave Johnson founded the place and a lady named Caroline was his assistant. Cave was experimenting with the portal project and ended up getting poisoned by toxic moon dust, and his dying wish was that he wanted to put someone's mind and personality into a machine, creating a sort of organic artificial intelligence, and that Carloine takes control of Aperture when he's gone.

Here's where things start to get a little messed up. It's made clear that GLaDOS' core essence is actually Caroline, and in-game, that's disturbing as-is. But, according to those urban legends that fly around the Internet, Valve had actually planned to have a scene in the game depicting Caroline's little brain transfer (or however Cave did it) and her transformation into GLaDOS. In fact, Caroline's voice clips for the scene were left behind in the game. She says things along the lines of, "No, I don't want it!" And, yes, out of context, that does sound like rape, but in context with the game, that's insanely creepy.

In the game, as you progress through the old Aperture test chambers left behind from when Cave Johnson was in charge, you can hear in the pre-recorded messages by Cave depicting how the company went under and his drop into sickness. In some of them, you can hear Caroline's bored, annoyed voice, but even through the craziness, she still followed every whim of Cave's. Yet after all that, he turns around and shoves her into a robot. Pretty demented, right? It explains pretty well why GLaDOS is so vengeful and murder-happy.

In fact, this scene of Caroline being put into GLaDOS was so disturbing that the voice actor for Cave Johnson refused to record his half of the scene. Valve agreed and cut the scene from the game altogether.

Like I said, it's only an urban legend as of now, but do you think it's real? There's one thing you can think about this Halloween.
