(Rant)

I, along with a large chunk of the Pokémon fanbase, have been waiting for quite a long time for news regarding a remake for Ruby and Sapphire. Judging by the current pattern of a remake being put out two generations after the original game, I assumed we'd get a remake by the end of this generation, and half of me wants to believe we'll still get one.

But, sadly, this is most likely not the case.
With how diverse Black 2 and White 2 were with their wild Pokémon, you can get the majority of Pokémon in the Pokédex within this one game, only requiring a few trades and transfers to cram all 649 Pokémon into one copy of a Generation 5 game. Pokémon-collecting-wise, this means there's only one reason to get Ruby and Sapphire or their remakes: the Legendary Pokémon.

Here's where the problem kicks in: Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 already provided us with the majority of the Hoenn Legendary Pokémon.

After I found out that the Regi trio can be found in Black 2 and White 2, I started to get a little worried. I mean, why give us the option to catch them if they'll be in the next game, right? I shrugged off the notion and told myself not to worry about it...until I stumbled across Latios in Black 2. I concluded that that leaves the mascots of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald (Groundon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza) to be the only Hoenn-based Legenedaries to not be found in Black 2 and White 2. While the Regis and Latis were available in B2&W2, Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza were obtainable in HeartGold and SoulSilver, meaning you're only one transfer away from owning every Hoenn Legendary in Generation 5, eliminating the need for a Hoenn game.

That's when I started to panic.

If we already have access to the majority of the Hoenn-based Legendary Pokémon, then what's the point of having a Ruby and Sapphire remake in Generation 5?

Now, I could just be overthinking this, but I'm assuming that Game Freak is compensating for the fact that we're not getting a Ruby and Sapphire remake until Generation 6. This bugs me mainly because, let's face it, the next generation will be on the 3DS, and I don't have a 3DS yet. I really want to experience Ruby and Sapphire in new-age graphics, but all Game Freak seems to care about is to make sure everyone has every Pokémon in existence per generation, and since we can already do that within Generation 5, my hopes for a Ruby and Sapphire remake are slowly dwindling down.

Again, maybe I'm overthinking things. Game Freak has been paying more attention to the other aspects of the series lately, such as expanding upon the plot and making the battles flow more smoothly, so maybe they're already working on a Ruby and Sapphire remake in secret, trying to gather up hype. Honestly though, I'd much rather be informed on what they're working on than be left in the dark, wondering if we're getting this remake at all.

I could be worrying over nothing, but it's still something to think about. Guess we won't know for sure until something turns up.
